Wedding Day Timeline: Hour-by-Hour Schedule Template
Why a Detailed Timeline Matters
A wedding day timeline is your roadmap for the most important day of your life. Without one, vendors show up at wrong times, photos run long, and dinner gets cold. With a solid schedule, everything flows naturally.
Getting Ready (6-8 Hours Before Ceremony)
Start hair and makeup 4-5 hours before the ceremony for a party of 4-6. The photographer should arrive during the final touches to capture candid getting-ready moments. Have a light breakfast and stay hydrated.
First Look and Photos (2-3 Hours Before)
First look sessions take 15-30 minutes. Wedding party photos: 30-45 minutes. Family formals: 30 minutes (assign a family member to help wrangle people). Couple portraits: 45-60 minutes.
Ceremony (30 Minutes)
Guests arrive 30 minutes before the start time. The processional takes 5-8 minutes depending on party size. The ceremony itself: 15-20 minutes. Recessional and exit: 5 minutes.
Cocktail Hour (60 Minutes)
While guests enjoy drinks and appetizers, the couple finishes remaining photos. This is also when the venue transitions from ceremony to reception layout.
Reception (4-5 Hours)
Grand entrance (5 min) → first dance (5 min) → dinner (60-90 min) → toasts (15-20 min) → cake cutting (10 min) → dance party (2-3 hours) → bouquet toss (10 min) → last dance (5 min).
