Groom Suit Guide: Pick the Right Fit for Your Body
Fit Is Everything
A $500 suit that fits perfectly looks better than a $3,000 suit that does not. Understanding your body type matters more than the brand.
Slim Build
Slim-fit or European-cut jacket with narrow lapels. Avoid double-breasted styles. Choose a two-button jacket to elongate your torso.
Athletic Build
Broad shoulders with narrower waist. Look for side vents and a suppressed waist. A peak lapel adds presence without bulk.
Stocky or Muscular Build
Single-breasted, two-button jackets in dark colors. Minimal shoulder padding. Make sure the jacket buttons without pulling.
Tall Build
Double-breasted jackets work well. Choose a longer jacket length and wider lapels to balance proportions.
Fabric by Season
- Summer: Linen, cotton, or tropical-weight wool. Light gray, tan, or navy.
- Fall/Winter: Flannel, tweed, or medium-weight wool. Charcoal or burgundy.
- Year-round: Medium-weight wool in navy or charcoal.
Tailoring Checklist
